Just Declare The Whole Country Closed And Be Done With It
-
National parks are closed. You know that. But exactly how closed are they? This closed: a runner got fined $100 for running in Valley Forge National Historical Park, even though, he says, there were other runners and bikers using the roads in the park. The lot in which he parked wasn't blocked off, either. Can they really block you from entering on foot? I mean, Valley Forge is a large plot of land, and running on the roads in the park doesn't require any rangers or other services. Most of it is just a slightly hilly open area, not too many trees. Seems silly to close it off to runners even if you need to close it to traffic. Then again, I'm biased -- I'm a runner, I used to live near there, and if I was still there, I'd probably be tempted. Meanwhile, Mount Rushmore's closed, too, with cones set up so you can't even drive there and some viewing areas along the main road are also coned off so you can't even look. This is so silly that it's painful. (AP via Delaware County Daily Times; AP via Prairie Business)
