Expect more airlines to start fees that involve your need to grab overhead bin space. They won't necessarily follow Spirit in charging for carry-ons in general, but you'll pay for "priority boarding" (I am not ashamed to tell you that I paid for that on a crowded Delta flight just to make sure I could find room for my bag) or guaranteed space. They COULD just make the bins larger and/or enforce the rules (really, how many times do you see people lugging shopping bags the size of Delaware on board?). (New York Times)
