And Perhaps Calling It 'Killer Bread' Was Inadvisable Under The Circumstances
-
There's a popular bread brand in Portland called "Dave's Killer Bread," named after Dave Dahl, who was a career criminal, spent 15 years in prison, then came out, reformed, started baking, and hired other ex-cons to help them out. It was a nice redemption story, and Dave's face is on every bag. One small problem now: He's back in trouble, arrested after a police chase in which he allegedly rammed police cars and hurt cops. So, does this kill (no pun intended) the brand? And the timing couldn't be worse: They planned to expand the brand nationwide. It's like if Colonel Sanders went nuts, or Orville Redenbacher broke bad. Can a product succeed with a criminal on the bag? (KATU-TV/Portland)
