Yes, yes, a thousand times yes: a study shows that hospitals provide better care when they silence all those alarms you hear constantly beeping all day and night. See, the majority of alarms don't need an audible signal, and the constant sounds desensitize the nurses to actual emergencies. Plus, those beeps keep patients awake and stressed. Why they haven't switched to silent, vibrating alarms by now, I don't know, but tests at Boston Medical Center indicate that it would be a very good idea.
