So You Don't Care About Trash Pickup And Zoning Board Meetings After All, Huh?

So, basically, the whole hyperlocal concept for news that we were told would be the future of the media? The most high-profile example, Patch, was recently sold by AOL, and hundreds of its editors and writers -- by some account, most of them -- have been laid off. They were not making any money on it. Maybe there IS no money to be made that way. At least, not by a big company trying to do it with a cookie-cutter template. Maybe if each site was its own operation with its own name and flavor, it might work. (JimRomenesko.com)
