And If You're A 'Superfan' Of Anything, You Really Need To Reassess Your Existence
-
The upshot from the Marcus Smart fan-shoving incident: Smart gets a three-game suspension, a ding to his "good guy" reputation, and remains-to-be-seen effect on his NBA prospects (in other words, play well enough and he'll be fine). The fan, who says that he did not use a racial slur but did call Smart a "piece of crap," which Texas Tech said is verified by video, is a longtime "superfan" of the Red Raiders and a veteran of taunting opposing players who will not attend any more games this season. Really, though, a few thoughts: Of course, players shouldn't get into physical altercations with fans, even if they're throwing out racial slurs, but we're also talking about a college kid being verbally slammed by an adult who should know better. Nobody's right in this one, but nobody got physically hurt, it didn't escalate beyond the shove, everyone's suspended... what else should be, or needs to be, done here? (ESPN; Texas Tech)
