When Did The Thought Police And The Religion Police Merge?
-
You know, when politicians go to extremes to bolster their anti-gay credentials, I wonder what's up with them. Seems unnecessary and overcompensating for something, I dunno. Anyway, in South Carolina, the state House has approved a bill pushed by a Republican State Representative to cut finding to two colleges because they picked gay-themed books for students to read. Now, I don't know the second book, but picking Alison Bechdel's "Fun Home" is a perfectly reasonable choice -- Bechdel is a noted cartoonist, the book is widely admired -- and getting revenge on the school for having students read it is... well, they're COLLEGE students, for crying out loud. You're SUPPOSED to read things that widen your horizons or depict things about which you might be unfamiliar or even opposed. The politician who pushed this through says it's not censorship, but it is. Flat out censorship. If you're secure in your beliefs, you don't need to shut anyone else up. (Fox News)
