Which Way Makes You More Money? 'Cause I'd Do That
-
Is it better to have a consistent record of success or a couple of massive successes in the midst of mediocrity or failure? That's the topic that arises when considering the death of Mitch Leigh. Who? Well, he was a composer on Broadway and for advertising, toiling away writing musicals that failed, except for one: "Man of La Mancha," from which "The Impossible Dream" emerged as a standard. One other song for which he wrote the music is one you'd know: the Sara Lee jingle, "Everybody Doesn't Like Something...." Otherwise, he had a record of musicals that closed quickly. Better to have one or two grand slams and a bunch of strikeouts, or a lot of homers? (New York Times)
