They're All Like That
-
It's rare that a politician is as blunt about what motivates him as Florida Senate President Don Gaetz in this article about the nonsensical ban on half-gallon growlers, the jugs of beer sold by craft brewers for take-home customers that are legal in 47 other states. When asked why the jugs are illegal, he admits that he doesn't know, but despite his free-market anti-regulation stance on other things, he says he'll support whatever one major donor wants him to support, which, because that donor owns a Budweiser distributorship, is to keep the ban in place. The beer distributor gives hundreds of thousands of dollars to politicians' campaigns, and this is what it buys: He gets them to vote for things that they otherwise wouldn't. They -- and most politicians -- are for sale. (AP via WTVJ/Miami)
