Besides, It's Not Like A Public School Principal Has Deep Pockets, Anyway
-
When a court makes a common-sense ruling, it's sometimes shocking. Take the New Jersey Supreme Court case in which a principal was held not responsible for a dog attack on the schoolyard that occurred after the school day was over. A woman used the schoolyard as a shortcut to get home, and someone's vicious dog had gotten loose and attacked her. She sued the school principal, even though it wasn't the principal's dog, and the school was closed (it was a Saturday). She alleged that he was informed that the dog had attacked people and should have contacted police or animal control, but the court noted that it wasn't his dog and it wasn't while the school was open. A lower court agreed with the plaintiff, but the state Supreme Court came to its senses. (Vineland Daily Journal)
