Here Comes The Neighborhood
-
You own apartment buildings in New York and the neighborhoods are gentrifying, but your apartments are rent-controlled and you can't get the poorer tenants to move. What do you do? These landlords allegedly sent workers in to bust up kitchens and bathrooms with sledgehammers under the pretext that they were there to fix the places up. The landlords insist that these were renovations, but they ripped up floors and left them like that for months and months and some are still like that. It's understandable that the landlords would be pissed at being subject to artificially low rents, but they know the rules. (New York Daily News)
