Turkmenistan used to be ruled by a dictator, President Saparmyrat Niyazov, but he's dead now, and the government would like everyone to just forget he existed, so they're busy taking down monuments he built to himself, and taking his name off things (he renamed January after himself) and out of textbooks. But the people are making a vodka named after him a success, despite costing the equivalent of $53 a bottle. Because I guess they miss the old guy, even if he banned recorded music and ballet and gold teeth. (BBC)
