Health Care Delayed Is Health Care Denied
-
While the President remains silent -- he's said nothing for weeks, and sent a spokeshole (copyright 1990 John and Ken) to "Face the Nation" to report that he's quite cross with the Veterans Administration over the whole delayed-treatment scandal -- the Dayton Daily News reported that there have been at least 167 cases settled by the VA in which the term "delayed treatment" showed up. There are many more where it's possible that this was the case but the documents don't show details. So, we have government-run health care letting people -- people who served their nation in military service -- literally die rather than give them help, because they didn't want to screw up the official results and make themselves look bad. And now, nobody seems to be stepping up to take responsibility. One guy, the undersecretary for health care at the VA, quit, but the agency's chief, Eric Shinseki, and others involved aren't talking other than vague "we're upset, too" and "we're investigating" statements (read: We're looking for a suitable scapegoat). Heads should be rolling. (Dayton Daily News)
