I'll say this at the outset: I was bullied when I was a kid. A lot. I got my ass kicked on a sadly regular basis. I survived, but it was miserable. So you'd think I'd be in favor of Carson, CA's proposed anti-bullying law that would fine anyone who bullies someone between 5 and 25 years old. The trouble, of course, is how you'd define "bullying." They say it's when the victim feels "terrorized, frightened, intimidated, threatened, harassed or molested." But molestation is already a crime, and direct threats are, too. The rest? We're going to make it a crime when someone feels frightened, based on their word? Are we heading down the road of making it illegal to hurt someone's feelings? This is a case of a bad situation leading to a bad law. (CBS News)
