Money's Worth

It's not fazing the people of Allen, a suburb of Dallas, that because of the cracks in the concourse of their $60 million, two-year-old high school football stadium (we've previously written here about the excess that led to the building of that palace and the subsequent structural problems), the high school football team will have to play the 2014 schedule in another town and on the road. They're cheerful and talking about following their "road warriors" wherever they have to go. But they've spent an additional $624,000 because of the concrete cracks, and there'll be a lot more to come. And the locals are not concerned that the school board took money out of their pockets and spent it on a palatial high school football field that now can't be used. Can't feel sorry for them, though; This WAS their priority, so they can only blame themselves. (Dallas Morning News)
