See, when I hear about a skydiving student killed and the instructor injured when their parachute didn't open on a tandem jump, I think, well, this is what happens when there's mechanical difficulty at a great height. We fly in planes because we have to -- that's how you travel great distances now. But when it's just for recreation and you're totally reliant on a simple, non-electric mechanism and it doesn't work, you're probably dead. You can't avoid all risks and you can just as easily be killed on the ground, but this one just doesn't seem worth it, even if the odds -- 24 fatalities among 3 million jumps last year -- are in your favor.
