Because You Don't Always Want To Keep The Curtains Respectfully Drawn

We have one large cemetery here on our hill, and there are residential neighborhoods on three sides of it. So if you live in a home backing up onto the cemetery, you're going to see, at a distance, funerals. But some folks in one condo building are angry because the cemetery built a mausoleum and then put an area for rooftop funerals on the roof, moving those funerals just 50 feet from people's balconies. The residents are not happy; they didn't expect funerals to be THAT close to their homes, and object not only to having to hear and see the ceremonies right outside their windows, but to the fact that if they do anything outside, including playing music or jumping into the pool, it'll be visible and audible to the weeping mourners. So the residents are, in some cases, allegedly deliberately disrupting funerals. That's not right, is it? And the homeowners' association didn't object to the plan, either, nor did the City Council, which rubber-stamped the mausoleum plan. Is it too late for a resolution? And if proximity to funerals is a problem for you, why move right next to a cemetery in the first place? (KCAL-TV/Los Angeles)
