Genetically modified food controversial enough for you? How about genetically modified flies that kill themselves off? The idea is to kill off bugs that endanger crops. But if they introduce these into the general insect population, could they cause bugs we DON'T want to kill off to die as well? They've already tried GM mosquitos to battle dengue fever, so this is well underway. But with the bee problem still unresolved, this seems to be playing with fire. (BBC)
