MSG -- monosodium glutamate, food flavor enhancer and Chinese food staple -- is bad for you, right? The American Chemical Society says that it's not harmful. In fact, your body MAKES the stuff, and the body can't tell the difference between what it makes naturally and what you get from food. In moderation, like anything else, it's fine So how did it become a culinary pariah? One scientist wrote a piece in 1968 complaining of feeling bad after eating Chinese food and guessed that MSG was to blame. That's it. Never proven.
