You see foul balls go into the stands at baseball games all the time, but you never hear this stat: 1,750 fans are injured by foul balls every year. Wouldn't have thought that. And, unlike hockey, which put up nets after that girl died in Columbus, they don't put up nets beyond the backstop. In fact, they used to have more protection -- many parks had the net from the backstop up to the press box behind home plate, but you don't see that anymore (nor the balls that would get stuck on the net). Should they do more? (Bloomberg)
