People Don't Like It When You Toy With Their Loyalty
-
If you're a fan of a minor league baseball team, how much does it matter with which major league team the locals are affiliated? In Sacramento, where the AAA River Cats are a major draw, the team has been long affiliated with the Oakland A's, the closest major league team. But that's about to end, and it appears that the Cats will become an affiliate of the next-closest team, the San Francisco Giants, who are the most popular MLB team in Sacramento. Win-win? No, no, it's a problem, because the Cats fans who favor the A's are livid. They're on Facebook promising never to go to a Cats game again because the affiliation is changing. And studies show that the affiliation is more important than winning, which is important because the A's have a stronger, more winning minor league system but the Giants are the bigger draw.
