Looks like it's no to Scottish independence (written late Thursday L.A. time/early Friday U.K. time; the BBC is calling it, too). Union survives, but in case those who wanted independence are despairing, a very sharp point was made. Still, the most confused have to be the Conservatives in England, who didn't want the union broken up but would have benefited immensely in Parliament if Scotland, a heavily Labour portion of the electorate, had gone its own way. And Alex Salmond and the SNP have to be wondering if the results mean they should try again and make it the issue in 2016. (The Guardian)
