The Truth Shall Set You Free, Eventually, Maybe
-
After 17 years in prison, a woman convicted of murder has been released, and the way she ended up in jail is infuriating: She was convicted primarily on the testimony of a witness so unreliable that prosecutors in another area had nicknamed cases with bad testimony after her, someone who was considered by law enforcement a "pathological liar." Yet, knowing that, the prosecutors and judge used the testimony anyway, built the case around it, and let what appears to be an innocent person get thrown in jail. The witness is now dead, the Innocence Project took up the case, and the convict has been released. (Los Angeles Times)
