You Can Understand What He Sees In Her. Or Maybe Not
-
The roof continues to cave in on Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and his fiancée, Cylvia Hayes with the latest revelation that in 1997 she and her then-boyfriend bought land to grow pot, got foreclosed upon, and left pot trimmings and other evidence behind. She admits she was involved now -- the land, she claims, was never actually used for growing pot, and she didn't bankroll it -- and says she was in an abusive relationship, but the guy who sold her the land says she was in charge back then. Now, here's the question: Does his girlfriend's shady past reflect on the Governor's ability to manage the state? On one hand, she has nothing to do with his job. On the other hand, you can say that if she consorts with drug dealers and illegal immigrants as in the past -- there's nothing to say she does, or doesn't, do that now -- it might put the Governor in a compromising position. And do you know everything about the past of YOUR spouse or partner? Really? How sure of that are you? (The Oregonian)
