Gordon Ramsay Wouldn't Stand For This
-
You watch those reality shows on which a celebrity chef comes in and remakes a restaurant or bar, and they may show you how it's going in the short run -- like months, or weeks, or not at all -- but they don't show what REALLY happens. In Philly, two bars were on Spike TV's "Bar Rescue" and were made over by Jon Taffer, and while the episodes haven't yet aired, the bars have both gotten rid of his changes. One -- the old Lickety Split bar on South Street -- was told by him to offer "Alleged Pizza," and when he left, they ripped the signs down. They also got rid of his drink specials and brought back comedy nights and sports on the TV. Meanwhile, across the river, the very first "Restaurant Impossible" makeover is no more, with the restaurant changong to a sports bar after 4 years of Robert Irvine's changes. Seems like the experts might not have a perfect record. (Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly.com)
