8 Hours A Day... That WOULD Be Nice
-
I don't know how many of you will identify with this one, but I can: It's an essay by a journalist who had a good career going at a major website but found herself burned out by a great job and walked away from it. People never understand when you talk about how your job, which seems perfect, can become an albatross, eating up your time because you feel like you can never take time to do "normal" things. And, yeah, when you're working all the time and at home and don't take breaks or vacations, a dream job can become a burnout situation. She talks about fantasizing about taking a job as a garbage man, and, well, yes, you do end up thinking that maybe 9-to-5 would be better. But I don't know if that's even possible if you want to make enough to survive. Anyway, it's a good read for anyone who has a job they love but who's feeling the burnout coming on. (Elle Magazine)
