New York's MTA was ready to start taking payments for subway and bus rides via cell phone and chip cards, but now they're delaying the launch and sticking with the Metrocard system until at least 2020. Why? Because the MTA discovered that other systems that have gone electronic with their fares have had major problems. This raises a point for me: I use Apple Pay when it's available, but it doesn't always work, and when it doesn't, it's VERY frustrating. One soda machine at a local mall just would not finish the transaction, and it was more aggravating than if I'd just dug out a couple of dollars from my wallet. Imagine that happening with a subway turnstile at rush hour. If they're going to do this, it HAS to be close to perfect. (New York Post)
