We'll Always Have Faygo

I am stunned by the precipitous fall of the Lehigh Valley's once-dominant A-Treat soda, which has apparently shut down. Back in the day, you'd go to Allentown or Easton or Bethlehem and instead of Coke or Pepsi machines, you'd see A-Treat machines and signs everywhere. As recently as 20 years ago, when I lived literally down the river from that area, I'd drive up River Road and into Easton and see A-Treat everywhere, a last vestige of a time when regional and local sodas competed with the big guys -- I grew up thinking Cott (now a huge private label soda maker) and Hoffman in New York and Frank's in Philly were as big as Coca-Cola. Anyway, A-Treat got into financial trouble and got hit with the double whammy of declining soda consumption and running afoul of Walmart's daily stocking rules. R.I.P. (Allentown Morning Call)
