Your Suspicions Confirmed - Nobody Bought Any Of That Stuff
-
Why did SkyMall go bankrupt? The obvious answer would be that with more options for in-flight entertainment, like TV screens and tablets and Wi-Fi, there wasn't a need to thumb through Hammacher-Schlemmer or Sharper Image gizmos. But there's this article by a former flight attendant noting that the company wasn't really there to sell stuff to the public anyway, and never trained the attendants to know what to do if someone wanted to buy anything. No, they'd become a third party fulfillment company, delivering the items you get if you cash in frequent flyer miles on merchandise rather than flights. And that business went bad. So, they're looking for a buyer to keep the thing going, but in the meantime, no self-cleaning litter boxes for you, at least from them. (New York Times; Slate)
