How About We Assign Everyone A Number And Call Them That?
-
City University of New York's graduate program has ordered professors to stop using salutations like "Ms." and "Mr." in correspondence with students and third parties. The school says it's to avoid violating Title IX anti-discrimination policies. Not sure how that's discrimination, though. If the argument is that marital status is not necessary or appropriate information, doesn't "Ms." handle that? Is gender designation problematic? Aren't salutations more about respect? If you can't call someone "Mr." or "Ms.," what DO you call them? Do you just use their first names? (Fox News)
