It'd Be A Shame If Anything Were To 'Happen' To Your Tree, Mr. Mayor (wink)
-
This woman complains that her sewer line is being blocked by roots, which is common, but they're roots from a city-owned tree on adjacent common land, and the city has been disclaiming any responsibility. In fact, the city seems bent on refusing to pay, first saying that it's not their problem, then saying that it depends on whether the city planted the tree or someone else did, then saying that if the pipes are leaky, the water would attract the roots and it's not the city's problem. This could all be solved by removing the tree. And if the city won't do it, would anyone notice if, one day, the tree just... disappeared? If you catch my drift. (KNBC-TV/Los Angeles)
