Since Portland is now considering banning employers from asking whether job applicants have a criminal record, because that will keep people who are sincerely trying to start anew from being able to get a fresh start, we can debate it all over again. The point they make is good, but then, wouldn't you want to know if the person you're about to hire has a violent past? Don't you have a duty to protect other employees and customers if, say, someone has a record of rape? If the new hire then commits a crime, is the employer liable because they should have known, and if so, how would they know? (KOIN-TV/Portland)
