Back Off, She's An Intellectual

Airborne rants don't often get as interesting as the one delivered on a flight from Nicaragua to Miami by a college professor -- okay, Penn State-Abington, which is barely college, and I apologize for the cheap shot joke but I still think of it as Ogontz -- who decided to launch into a speech supporting Venezuela and Hugo Chavez while lighting a cigarette in what she claimed was a symbolic display of a "smoking gun." The incoherent rant -- here ya go -- was NOT a drunken incident; she meant every word, because she is an idiot. Highlights: Yelling "The United States has declared war on Venezuela! The United States has declared war on Venezuela!" "My great hero, Hugo Chavez, nationalized the oil supply so that the people would own the oil! Not Exxon Mobil. Tell Exxon Mobil to go away." Blaming another passenger for lighting up. Shouting "F-ck you, this is not a democracy!" while being arrested (as if Venezuela's a democracy these days). Now... she is an associate professor of sociology, and it reminds me that sociology professors always seemed to me to be the most disagreeable people, usually prone to supporting collectivist philosophies that subjugated the individual and often even tortured or killed those who rebelled (or were just different). I wonder why that is. (WSVN-TV/Miami; Miami New Times)
