A Case Of The Mondays Shouldn't Make You Unhireable, But Suicidal Thoughts....

So, if Lufthansa, as it appears now, knew years in advance that the co-pilot who took the Germanwings flight down had suffered bouts of depression, what should they have done? Before you answer, be warned: This is not an easy question to answer, even though your first impulse seems logical. Sure, you may think that banning him -- taking him out of the job -- would make sense. But if we're going down that road, are we going to mandate discrimination against everyone exhibiting any sign of mental illness? Because if we do that, a massive percentage of the workforce won't be allowed to do practically anything. It also opens us up to employers demanding health records and hiring and firing based on what's in there. Comfortable with that? Or are there particular jobs (like pilot) where mental health has to be a prerequisite? Which jobs qualify? (BBC)
