Someone Has To Keep An Eye On The People Keeping An Eye On Us

In the wake of the video showing a policeman shooting an unarmed, fleeing suspect in the back, South Carolina legislators are pushing harder to mandate body cameras for cops. And, yeah, they all should wear 'em. But keep in mind that the video was made by a third party, and the cops have fought hard to block people from taking video of arrests. Some states are unclear about allowing people to videotape police actions, and people have been arrested for "interfering with investigations." If they're serious about preventing police brutality -- and no matter what you think about the issue and what you said about Ferguson or Staten Island, there's practically no "other side of the story" in the North Charleston shooting -- they need to protect people's right to videotape what's happening right in public like that.
