It's Buzzfeed's World. The Rest Of Us Are Just Trying To Emulate It

The PBS station in Seattle has laid off most of its production staff, including people who have worked there for 30 or 40 years, and the justification the station gave is that it's going to now produce its local shows for digital distribution -- phones, tablets, computers. The question that raises for me is... you don't need production people for that? I know the answer: They've decided that the future is in saving every possible dollar and making cheap, quick videos with consumer equipment (like phones), having one person shoot, edit, and post the material. Are we looking at a future with nothing but seven minute shakycam "shows" made by people who work for free or close to it? (SeattlePI.com)
