Yeah, That's Right, It Wasn't The Real Santa. We Wouldn't Mess With Real Santa

I have had to explain the old story about Eagles fans throwing snow balls (not ice balls, not batteries) at Santa Claus for so long... and now, we have the story of the passing of Santa Claus himself, Frankie Olivo, at 66, so let's straighten it out for the last time: The Eagles were at the end of a horrible season, it was snowing, the guy they hired to play Santa at halftime was stuck in Jersey, they needed an emergency Santa, and they plucked Frankie, who'd come to the game in a bad Santa suit, from the stands and sent him out there to get booed and snowballed. It wasn't the "Philly fans are evil" incident it's made out to be (the J.D. Drew game WAS that, and I was there, so I know), but it was his claim to fame, and you HAVE to read the end of the obit, which explains the opening line of the piece. It's quite clever and radio-related in a way. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
