You Don't Think Of The Price When You're Bleeding Out
-
So, you get hurt in a remote location and they send a medivac chopper or air ambulance to get you. Your insurance will cover it, right? Probably not, or at least not much of it, because air ambulance companies have discovered that they can pretty much charge whatever they want and make people pay it, and insurance companies have put limits on what they'll cover. And then there's the question of whether the choppers are even necessary in many situations, whether they're faster, and whether it's fair to charge someone for a service they didn't request (because they're either in pain or unconscious at the time). Who should pay, and should there be a reasonable limit on what the air ambulance companies can charge? (New York Times)
