A study says that children facing adversity like divorcing parents or illness will more likely confide in their pets rather than their siblings, and that sort of makes sense. Especially at a young age, you don't want to talk about your innermost feelings with your brother or sister or anyone who'll actually react, you just want to talk and feel like you're being listened to without being judged. A pet will do the trick. (BBC)
