You Don't See The New York Times Changing Its Name To 'NYT,' Do You?
-
The first thing the Los Angeles Times is doing after closing on the purchase of U-T San Diego is to get rid of that ridiculous name and restore the full "San Diego Union-Tribune" name to the paper. "U-T" is the common nickname you'd use in talking about the paper, but it was a really stupid official name. Some things are good with nicknames or acronyms, but newspapers kind of need a real formal name to sound like they have authority. Every time I'd see the U-T on the newsstand, I'd cringe a little. (U-T... er, San Diego Union-Tribune)
