And If You Can Lock The Door, You're Way Less Likely To Get A Wedgie From Anyone

A high school student who isn't transgender nevertheless managed to get a lot of attention by getting over 18,200 signatures on a petition to get his school to create gender-neutral restrooms. He's described as a "ninth-grade activist," which is kind of a scary phrase. Anyway, the problem with the gender-neutral bathroom issue is that it's expensive to build or retool bathrooms like that -- there's an economic reason and space reasons school bathrooms are multi-stall and accomodate several kids at once -- but that's where a lot of tax money might be going. Not that I'd complain -- I'd have welcomed single-occupancy bathrooms in school, because the stalls in the boys' room were not conducive to actual use as a toilet and because the single-use rooms have GOT to be cleaner than the usual horror that boys' rooms invariably are. So, I'm all for it. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
