Okay, every time I read about someone like this Orange County-based BASE jumper who fell to his death doing a dangerous jump, they always -- ALWAYS -- say that he loved doing it and accepted the risks and even embraced the danger, and that was how he lived his life. I'm sure it was, but when I read this story, I wondered if, as his chute failed and the ground rushed to meet his face, at that last second, he was still embracing the danger. It seems to me that you love the risks and seek the thrills because deep down, you don't think you'll ever actually get killed doing it. We'll never know if that changes in the seconds before you hit the ground, when you have your fateful "Oh, Sh-t" moment. (Los Angeles Times)
