If The Players Don't Mind, Why Should You?

It's not quite a regular season thing, but it's something: The Arizona Cardinals will use Jen Welter as a linebacker coach for the preseason and training camp. Jen is a woman, apparently the first ever female coach for an NFL team. She coached and even played in the men's Indoor Football League, and played rugby in college, so she can't be anything but tough enough. The NFL still has a problem dealing with women and domestic violence, but this is a start. Not as far along as the NBA, where Becky Hammon is already an assistant in San Antonio and it now wouldn't surprise too many people if she was a head coach in the regular season at some point, but it's a step forward. (And watch the Women-Can't-Do-That crowd materialize to try and stop history....) (Arizona Republic)
