Bottled water wasn't really a thing before, what, the late '70s? Now, there's a push to bring back the public water fountain as people's source of hydration, and that's not a bad thing, but it kind of ignores why bottled water became a thing in the first place: people's aversion to the perceived unhygenic nature of drinking from a shared spout. I know, I know, bottled water IS tap water, often, but I've seen people putting their lips on a fountain spout, or spitting into it, or leaving their gum in the basin, and that's kind of gross. At least the bottled stuff is filtered. Still, bottles are a waste. Maybe there should be more of those reusable bottle refiller fountains I see at the Atlanta airport; at least nobody's putting their lips on that.
