You're Not An Independent Contractor, Lady

The Kentucky county clerk who refuses to issue licenses for same-sex marriages is standing firm in the face of probable contempt of court charges, but as an elected official, they can't fire her -- nobody can fire her -- and the legislature would have to impeach her. Here's the thing: She's welcome to believe what she wants, but her JOB is to comply with the law. And she's welcome to her civil disobedience, but she should lose her job for it, because she's not doing the job she swore she would do. Not that complicated, actually. If she doesn't want to issue licenses to gay people because of how she interprets her religion, fine, but then she can't keep her job. (Lexington Herald-Leader)
