They Weren't Funny, But That's Not The Issue
-
The day after Jon Rudnitsky got announced as the new cast member of "Saturday Night Live," someone looked at his old tweets and found "offensive" jokes. This is the same thing as for Trevor Noah: they were jokes. OLD jokes. Do you destroy someone's career and reputation over things they posted to Twitter and Vine a few years ago? Especially taking the jokes out of context? (Even in context, they weren't funny, but no comedian knows if something's going to work until he or she throws it out there.) And, of course, this has become an issue because of the moral righteousness of Gawker and the very writer who outed a private citizen just for the lulz and because that citizen worked for a rival company. Yeah, he should have deleted the jokes, but this is witch hunt territory now. (USA Today)
