Civic Boosterism 1, Common Sense 0
-
You're a football coach and there's a party for your team in your city's nightlife district, and a former player gets shot to death there. You say that you're making that neighborhood off limits to players during the season. Is that bad? In Tampa, where all of that happened in the Ybor City section to USF players, the coach is backtracking and the athletic director overruled the ban, because the civic association folks got upset that he in effect characterized that area as unsafe. But it IS an area where fights break out and trouble can happen, because there are bars and alcohol and lots of people milling about all night. Is it bad for a coach to tell his team to stay away from potential trouble? (WFLA-TV/Tampa)
