The Price We Pay For Living In Paradise-Adjacent
-
The rest of the country is seeing $2/gallon gas. Southern California's a buck more expensive, because California. Also because Exxon Mobil's Torrance refinery had an explosion and they've dragged their feet repairing the problem. But now the company and the state emissions czars are fighting over whether to do a temporary fix to restore production or to do a "longer term" fix that would keep gas prices high until at least February. Somehow, the public doesn't move on the refinery or the state house with torches and pitchforks. I live here -- not far from that refinery, in fact -- and I still don't understand why the voters here keep voting for the same hacks that take their money and squander it, and can't get things like this dispute fixed, and I don't understand why they don't demand action on things like high gas prices.
