I like Jim Gaffigan. He's funny and smart and, as a devout Catholic, deserved a slot on the bill for the Pope's Saturday night extravaganza in Philadelphia. But he made the same error many people from outside the Delaware Valley do: He made a Philly vs. Santa joke, and it bombed big time. They booed him. And it's because -- I'll speak here as a former resident who is still an Eagles fan -- after 47 years, people STILL mischaracterize what happened and it's just... tired. We made all the jokes over and over ourselves, and it's lazy. Nobody booed or attacked Santa. They DID boo a fan in a Santa suit who got pressed into action in a lame halftime show. And, really, 47 years -- in all that time, there's been plenty more to joke about regarding Philly. Ask Bill Burr. (Philly.com)
