Tragedy Intrudes On The Fun
-
The need for people to be on TV was always there, but YouTube lets everyone actually do it. And there's a category of YouTubers, family vloggers, who are doing their own parody reality shows, putting the family on TV in scripted comedy shows that are pretty awful, but have huge followings. But what happens when ACTUAL reality gets in the way? One family known as "The Bratayleys" (not their real name), who post a fake sitcom-like reality series with their three kids, posted that their 13-year-old son, who was a breakout star from the show and even involved in promotions for Disney's "Star Wars" toy rollout, had suddenly died of "natural causes," freaking out fans. The family's real name hasn't been disclosed (although you can find it online), nor is their location (ditto), so there's no formal obituary, and the kid was in videos right up to the end, appearing to not be ill in any way. You know, when this happens on a real TV show, it's a difficult thing to deal with, and those are professionals. In this case, a real family with real fame has to deal with it, and you wonder how equipped they are to do it. (Variety)
